The European Premiere of Greg Patillo’s Beatbox Flute
The Project Trio is a passionate, high-energy New York chamber music ensemble that experiments with hip-hop, classical, jazz and avant-garde music. Greg Pattillo, Eric Stephenson and Peter Seymour are three classically trained musicians who make their instruments elicit unexpected sounds on stage. The cello sets groovy almost minimalist acoustic loops, and the bass creates an atmospheric wall of sound. Patillo joins in not only with melodic flute playing but also with a commitment to the beat. Pattillo has mastered a technique that allows him to imitate the sounds of a drum or a drum machine. Virtuosic and rhythmically possessed he practiced the so-called beat boxing and "normal " flute simultaneously.
Pattillo’s style is unrivaled. The New York Times describes the flutist as the "best in the world at what he does". Through the web, videos of his performance including his performance of ‘Inspector Gadget’ have earned him “Youtube-King” status with over 20 million clicks.
In addition to numerous original compositions, the three musicians always look out for wonderfully slanted interpretations of well known themes from jazz, film music and classical music.
Project Trio premiered their music for the first time in Europe in cooperation with the Jazztage Dresden Festival.
